All the things you need to know about Welcome Week (aka Freshers’ Week)

If you’ve just found out you’re coming to Exeter this year, congratulations!! We are so excited to welcome you soon. Here you can find some general information about Welcome Week (Monday 16 – Sunday 22 September 2024).

What is Welcome Week?

Also known as Freshers’ Week, this is the week before term starts. There will be events, inductions, orientation sessions and this week is your introduction to all aspects of your university life.

What’s on?

There will be loads of events on – you’re sure to find something to suit your interests! Take a look at all our events

This year we’ll be hosting fairs every day of Welcome Week. These fairs are where you can meet societies, groups and services and try something new!

Monday 16 Sep Academic Welcome Fair

Tuesday 17 Sep Find your Passion Fair

Wednesday 18 Sep Active and Wellbeing Fair

Thursday 19 Sep St Luke’s Welcome Fair

Friday 20 Sep Culture and Communities Fair

Take it at your own pace

It might be your first time living away from home; and that can feel like a big step! Be sure to take the week at your own pace, keep in touch with friends and family and don’t feel like you have to go to everything(which is actually impossible anyway!).

Welcome Week can get a lot of hype as the best week of your life – but although it will probably be memorable, don’t worry if you don’t enjoy all aspects of it! The week is designed to help you settle in and have an amazing introduction to uni life before you start your course.

If you’re finding things difficult (and that’s totally normal) please do reach out for help. You can contact University Wellbeing Services. Exeter has loads of peer support groups too. If you’re on Streatham campus and you need some quiet time, we’ve got a Chill Zone in Devonshire House every day.

Remember that everyone will be feeling the same as you –nervous about where to go and how to get there, about meeting new people and making new friendships. If you can put yourself out there a bit and talk to people, you won’t regret it!

Welcome isn’t just for 1 week

The first 6 weeks of term are designed to be your welcome to Exeter, with loads of events going on, and support if you need it to get adjusted to uni life.

Don’t worry, there will still be events taking place in weeks 6-12 of term too!

Hopefully this gives you a bit more knowledge about what to expect from Welcome Week but also check out our Welcome Hub for more tips and information in the run up to September!
