Governing Documents

The Governing Documents of the Students’ Guild are a set of rules that the Guild and it’s elected officers must follow when carrying out certain procedures. The constitution and annexes are updated and maintained by students in a democratic fashion. They dictate which committee’s shall exist for instance, how many students must be present at a General Meeting for the decision to be quorate and how elections should be run.

The Governing Documents are split into 3 sections, each of which is available for download from the website below.

University Ordinances 22

This documentation is managed by the University through its meetings of Senate. It is a short section of the University Ordinances that states that there shall exist a Students’ Guild and defines that we shall have a constitution and who should be classified as members of the Guild.

Guild Constitution

The Guild Constitution is a short document that sets the framework of the rules by which we operate. This determines the core requirements of the Students’ Guild but does not delve into the procedural requirements of how each part of the Guild will operate. This document can only be changed by a General Meeting that is in quorum and is then approved by the University.

Guild Annexes

The Guild Annexes set the more specific rules and procedures under which specific areas of the Guild will operate. It is in the Guild Annexes that the procedures for Elections can be found as well as information about the committees that will meet regularly. The Annexes can be changed by Guild Council when they are in quorum and these changes are not required to be approved by the University, as long as they do not conflict with the Core Constitution.
